Rest in Peace Steve Albini
Steve Albini, legendary audio engineer and musician, tragically passed away on May 7th, 2024. Needless to say this was pretty shocking news for many. This man was incredibly influential in the world of independent rock music. He engineered (produced) countless albums throughout his career, as well as fronted bands such as Big Black and Shellac. So today, I'm doing somewhat of a tribute video in Steve's honor, going over a number of important albums he engineered/recorded and talking about his own music.

Rivers Cuomo: The King of Awkward Interviews
Переглядів 2 тис.День тому
It's no secret that Rivers Cuomo is a pretty awkward guy. This general awkwardness has always been on full display with his band Weezer. As Rivers has gotten older, it seems he's become more comfortable in his skin. But back in the 90s when Weezer first took off, this was definitely not the case. So today, we're gonna dive into some old school Rivers Cuomo interviews that are gloriously awkward...
What if Dave Grohl Never Joined Nirvana?
Переглядів 1,1 тис.14 днів тому
When Dave Grohl joined Nirvana back in 1990, the band's sound was instantly brought to the next level. While Chad Channing was a good drummer, Kurt had a sound in his head that Chad could simply never bring to life. The band's 1991 breakthrough album Nevermind, along with 1993's In Utero, greatly benefited from Dave Grohl's presence. His significance in the evolution of Nirvana's sound cannot b...
What if Layne Staley Didn't Die in 2002?
Переглядів 14 тис.Місяць тому
In April 2002, we lost Layne Staley. Legendary frontman of Alice in Chains and Mad Season. As sad as his death was and is, no one was shocked to hear the news. Layne struggled with addiction throughout most of his adult life. By the end, he was sadly a shell of his former self. The drugs robbed Layne of his energy, his creativity and ultimately his life. This begs the question, what if Layne St...
Is Kurt Cobain Actually Rivers Cuomo?
Переглядів 1 тис.Місяць тому
The strange conspiracy theory of Kurt Cobain faking his death and becoming Rivers Cuomo is very well known. This theory is brought up regularly within the fanbases of both Nirvana and Weezer. There's some very interesting information regarding this topic that leads me to believe this theory isn't that far-fetched. So today, I'm gonna dive into it. Is Kurt Cobain actually Rivers Cuomo? Watch to ...
The WORST Post-Grunge Bands of All Time
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Місяць тому
These days, most look back on Post-Grunge with a sense of regret. The biggest bands associated with the label such as Nickelback and Creed have become internet punching bags. However, Post-Grunge dominated rock radio for years from the late 90s up until the mid 2000s. Many of these bands even crossed over to the mainstream pop charts. The subgenre was simply massive and unavoidable. Being an of...
The Last Show Nirvana Ever Played
Переглядів 2,3 тис.2 місяці тому
On March 1st, 1994, Nirvana played their final show at Terminal 1 in Munich, Germany. At the time, there was nothing noteworthy about this performance. Aside from some technical issues and illness, it was a very standard show for Nirvana. But in hindsight, there's a lot that stands out. Most prominently a joke Krist made between songs that foreshadowed the future with creepy accuracy. By the ti...
The Rise & Fall of Days of the New
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 місяці тому
Days of the New became an overnight rock sensation back in the late 90s. Their 1997 debut spawned the massive radio hit "Touch, Peel and Stand." This is the song that put the band on the map. It was inescapable at the time and still is today (if you listen to the radio anymore, that is). The principal force behind Days of the New was Travis Meeks, a gifted songwriter and musician that hit it bi...
How OK Computer Almost Destroyed Radiohead
Переглядів 12 тис.2 місяці тому
One of England's most significant rock bands, Radiohead, burst onto the scene in 1993. Their debut album Pablo Honey spawned the massive single "Creep," which is still widely beloved to this day. Radiohead's sophomore album The Bends, released in March, 1995, was a clear step-up from Pablo Honey. Seeing the band stray from the typical "alt-rock" sound and entering new creative territory, while ...
The Smashing Pumpkins Show That Ended in Tragedy
Переглядів 4,2 тис.2 місяці тому
In 1996, Smashing Pumpkins embarked on their worldwide tour in support of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. For the most part, everything was going okay. That was until May 11th, 1996, when the band played the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. The venue was packed with over 7,000 in attendance. But unfortunately, the show was plagued by an incorrigible crowd. Many were moshing and causing...
What if Kurt Cobain Didn't Die in 1994?
Переглядів 83 тис.3 місяці тому
This question has been asked many times over the years. What if Kurt Cobain didn't die in 1994? Would Nirvana have continued? Would Kurt have released solo material? We'll never really know. But in this video, I dive into this hypothetic scenario. I lay out an alternate timeline, going into detail of events beginning in April, 1994. Eventually I make my way to the end of the decade. Covering ev...
Joy Division's Gut-Wrenching Final Song
Переглядів 4 тис.3 місяці тому
Joy Division is a hugely influential band, known for essentially creating the "Post-punk" movement that started in the late 70s. While they only existed for around 4 years, the impact the band had is still felt today. 1979's "Unknown Pleasures" and 1980's "Closer" are staples of Post-punk and rock music at large. While Joy Division's music has been endlessly praised, their contributions to musi...
Alice in Chains' Unforgettable MTV Unplugged Show
Переглядів 3 тис.3 місяці тому
By the time Alice in Chains played MTV Unplugged, the band was falling apart at the seams. No longer touring or working on new material. Internally the band was a mess and it was shocking they were still going at all. The biggest hurdle Alice in Chains were facing at the time was frontman Layne Staley's addiction. With his condition continuing to deteriorate, it was incredibly hard for the band...

His debut, "Roman Candle", was released that year, followed by his self-titled...

Honestly the point I was missing for the longest time is that it’s okay to indulge in these kinds of downright evil pop-rock songs sometimes. It’s kind of like ironically watching reality tv occasionally

Found this band by listening to Inlet - which is awesome. Not so keen on previous albums - too similar to Smashing Pumpkins, who I like, but not as much as Inlet. More of the same please.

that's right, steve is a legend. i've seen shellac maybe 3-4 times, everytime they visit our country. never forget that, their shows were always shows, so funny, so rock, so loud and so connecting with the crowd. steve always come to the stage in his working boilersuit and takes that off there. i love how he always mounted his strap around waist. and of course their q&a sessions in between sets... i also love his sound production, so roomy, heavy and authentic.

I got to know your channel via that fantastic Bedhead video of yours. Considering how I got to know Steve thanks to his work on Transaction de Novo, his passing only furthers my interest in the projects he got involved with, besides such fantastic album. An immense loss, yet his influence may live and carry on in his vision and work for years. Great video, as always.

Physically, yes, he no longer with us, but his legacy, talent, & gift still continues to expand across many generations to this day. This earth plane simply could not contain him. I’d like to think any/every time we listen to him, he is right there with us - with that shy but genuine smile beaming light on us all.

This was the way it was meant to be by God and Layne was with God long before he died. He spoke to people in his music. Had a heavy heart and no ego was present. He wishes people would stop being pussies and carry that cross he left behind. Bring back good music, because the shit that is being released today is boring the hell out of him.

The major problem people rarely mention is that Ian asked a few times as a request for the travel to America was he wanted to go by boat to which everyone laughed in his face. He was deathly afraid to get on any airplane not to mention a transatlantic flight considering his increasingly major epileptic fits. He knew %100 he would never be getting on that airplane. When they rehearsed these last two songs no one bothered to listen to the words which mapped out his suicide to the T. The band was just too excited to even imagine the tour not happening. So Ian’s request for a barge/ship to New York was an absolute ultimatum. Boat or no more Joy Division. Yes these last two tracks are haunting as hell.

This is so factually incorrect, none of your dates are right. and most of your "facts" are bullshit rumors, similar to the ones that actually plagued Staley during his lifetime. Maybe try actual research next time, Google is your friend.

The entire video is a hypothetical scenario. It’s called “What If Layne Staley Didn’t Die in 2002?”. Of course dates aren’t factually correct because they didn’t actually happen! That’s the point of the video. Maybe try using your brain next time before leaving such a passive aggressive comment.
